Both this book and two CD-ROMs from World Bank are designed to provide anyone interested in Africa, especially analysts and policymakers, with accurate details on the current state of the impoverished continent. The paperback contains more than 500 macroeconomic, sectorial, and social indicators and covers 53 African countries. Additional data may be found on the CD-ROMs (the two are identical, with the multiple-user one allowing networking for up to 15 users), which contain over 1200 indicators for over 50 countries and 20 regional country groups from 1965 to 2003. It contains more than 500 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators, covering some 50 African countries with data from 1970-2004. The book is grouped into 15 chapters: background data; national accounts; prices and exchange rates; money and banking; external sector; external debt and related flows; government finance; agriculture; power, communications, and transportation; public enterprises; labor force and employment; aid flows; social indicators; environmental indicators; and HIPC debt initiative.
