Each watercolour painted on small cards, mounted two per sheet on rectos only; interleaved with a tissue guards.
In contemporary black leather binding, with covers bordered in gilt and blind; flat spine divided into compartments by blind rules; white moiré silk endpapers.
Includes hummingbirds, roosters, grouse, pheasants, and various water fowl.
Leaf [18] blank.
With the inscription "Mexico 1866" on 2nd front flyleaf. Possibly done or commissioned by the French ornithologist Adolphe Boucard who travelled in Mexico during this period collecting skins and feathers for Sclater and others. Another bird artist working in Mexico at this time was Rafael Montes Oca, a naturalist on the Mexican-Guatemalan Boundary Commission, who was a contributor to the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London.
