Yiu Fai Chow is Assistant Professor at the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, Hong Kong Baptist University. Jeroen de Kloet is Professor in Globalisation Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam, and director of the Amsterdam Centre for Globalisation Studies (ACGS).

Sonic Multiplicities comes at a moment when narratives on the rise of China are in full swing, when Hong Kong and its popular music are said to be under threat, if not already killed. From Olympic songs to a sex scandal, from minzu gequ to China wind, from local stadiums to a diasporic star, their fascinating array of case studies takes the idea of circulation as its core, tracing the material and geopolitical implications of popular music production and consumption spanning the last four decades of Hong Kong (pop) history. The authors capitalize on years of academic research and industry experience to pave their different ways to read Hong Kong popular music in particular, ultimately to propose alternate trajectories to study popular music in general.
