abstract
This series follows the life of Canada's longest-serving prime minister from his childhood when he felt himself drawn by the "unseen hand" of destiny through scandals and struggles of the 1920s and 1930s during which he secretly turned to spiritualism and the "great beyond" for advice and comfort and through the war years and the issue of Canadian conscription.
