Appeared in Library Journal on 2008-11-15:
First published in 1999, Heaney's (Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia) straightforward, fact-filled reference reflects United Russia's steady shift toward centralized government. Opening with an introductory overview, this revision includes a broad historical chronology, ministerial contacts, and population statistics. However, the book's bulk is devoted to multipage territory profiles, arranged alphabetically by name. Written in scientifically spare prose, each profile opens with a political map and devotes several paragraphs to topographical traits, territory history, and major economic developments since 2003.
