A Look Inside
Bowker Data Service Summary
After looking at contemporary legislation and examining the physical evidence of surviving artefacts, the authors have come to some surprising conclusions, demonstrating that Scotland's metrology was closely involved with those of her trading neighbours, and was much more logical than seen hitherto.
Main Description
Study based on the physical examination of weights and measures in the National Museums of Scotland and other collections with a thorough re-evaluation of the documentary sources. The aim of the book is to establish the relative values of various Scottish weights and measures from the 12th century to the Imperial standardisations of the 19th century. It also provides an exploration of the relationship of Scottish weights and measures top English and other European systems.
