general note
First produced on 26 Dec. 1767 at the Vienna Burg-theater, the first Italian productions were at Padova in 1777 and Bologna in 1778. The northern Italian paper used for this score suggests a possible connection between it and one of these productions.
Libretto by R. de Calzabigi. Cf. Loewenberg.
Musical tragedy in 3 acts.
This MS. generally follows the first published score of 1769, but contains several differences of dynamics and phrasing as well as variations in the musical text. There are some omissions of short passages (a few bars only in at least four passages and three numbers in Act II), and some slightly different versions of pieces (particularly the Act I chorus "Ah de questo afflitto regno").
Vol. 1: 78 leaves; vol. 2: 124 leaves.
Watermark: 7-pointed star, 3 crescents, letters EGA, CSC, VB; probably northern Italian paper ca. 1770.
