A selected and edited collection of papers presented at the Sixth International Research Seminar on 'Issues in Social Security' held by foundation of International Studies on Social Security (FISS) in June 1999. The contributors discuss, both from an economic and a sociological point of view, the topical and often heated issues surrounding the improvement of the incentive structure of social security programs by partial privatization. Detailed international studies compare aspects of welfare, old age benefit and health care systems in the UK, the Netherlands, the US, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Israel and Albania.
