A Look Inside
Full Text Reviews
Appeared in Library Journal on 1992-03-15:
Fifteen Florida historians and archaeologists document the Spanish presence in Florida from first contact in the 16th century to the latest Hispanic migrations. The essays are in English and Spanish on facing pages. They inform us of the impact the Spanish had on the Native Americans, their exploration, missions, cattle ranching, relations with free blacks, and the contributions of Hispanic people to 19th- and 20th-century Florida: Jose Marti and Paulina Pedroso fighting to free Cuba, folk artist Mario Sanchez, and Miami politicians Maurice Ferre and Xavier Suarez. Each well-written essay complements the others. Highly recommended for all collections.--Susan Hamburger, Virginia State Lib. & Archives, Richmond
