The founding father of the Republic of China, Sun Yat-Sen is one of the best-known figures in modern Chinese political history. His works continue to be interpreted, analyzed, and translated, and studies of him are published in books, articles, newspapers, conference proceedings, master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and audiovisual media. All these are covered in this second enlarged edition of this bibliography (1st ed., CH, Sep'91), which cites all the original selections (with corrections) and new publications totaling 2,581 primary and secondary sources on Sun's life and the republican revolution in China, 1885-1925. It intends to be comprehensive and international in scope. From the first edition's 16 languages, it now covers 19, but the majority of works cited are in English or Chinese. The bibliography is arranged by type of publication, then alphabetically by author or title. Annotations are brief and occasional. The compilers consulted many sources worldwide, but the 72-volume Catalogues of the Harvard-Yenching Library (Chinese catalog, 33v., 1986; Japanese catalog, 33v., 1985) is missing from the list of sources consulted, even though it appears at entry 0064. The volume concludes with author and subject indexes. Recommended for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students as well as historians and political scientists specializing in modern China.
