A Look Inside
Full Text Reviews
Appeared in Choice on 1998-09-01:
For the past four presidential elections prior to 1996, one could count on this trio of highly respected political scientists to produce an interpretation that is balanced, systematic, thorough, empirically rich, and theoretically insightful. With this fifth volume, they have not only done it again, but their execution is even more accomplished. First, they apply their superb analytical skills to a wide range of polling data and election returns, placing their explanations on a solid factual footing. They make especially good use of the National Election Studies materials. Second, they cover both the presidential and the congressional contests, making appropriate comparisons and discussing the consequences of each. Third, they look both backward and forward, placing the elections in historical context, projecting what might happen in the future, and remaining true to their title: "change and continuity."
