Miglani (genetics, Punjab Agricultural Univ., Ludhiana, India) has 25 years' experience teaching introductory and advanced genetics. He provides definitions for more than 3,500 terms and concepts, most drawn from all areas of genetics and not limited to specializations within plant genetics. Definitions of broad or general terms are often too brief to be of value to newcomers, but narrower and more complex topics tend to receive fuller treatment. Still, most entries are less than five lines in length. About 600 definitions are accompanied by citations to original research papers, texts, and reference sources, a valuable feature for those doing extensive research, but few undergraduates will find the citations, many more than 50 years old and in German, useful in achieving full understanding of a term. This title is recommended only for comprehensive collections in genetics or plant science. General collections will get better service from Henderson's Dictionary of Biological Terms (9th ed., ed. by Sandra Holmes, 1979) and Robert C. King and William D.
