Appeared in Choice on 1991-03:
Recent discoveries of forged Texas historical documents, combined with recognition of a lack of professional standards and guidelines to deal with the results, led to the convening of this Houston conference in November 1989. Its detailed and wide-ranging talks and discussion covered the detection of forgeries, personal and administrative responsibilities, scholarly concerns, tax and legal implications, and dealer/donor/institutional relations. Representing the current knowledge, lore, and beliefs of 13 leading booksellers, curators, and attorneys, these proceedings offer a number of useful case studies for courses in ethics--as well as valuable reading for administrators, board members, curators, and American studies scholars. -E. A. Swaim, Wesleyan University
