"Mr. [Frederic] Shoberl proceeded to assure me, in the presence of his son, that the work was written by [John] Watkins as far as the letter F -- that some dispute with the publisers then arose -- that the materials were thereofore handed over to himself -- and that he completed the work as it now appears." -- Bolton Corney, in Notes & queries, 1st ser., v. 11 (1855) p. 34.
Includes references to William Blake under William Hayley, W. Blake, and William Blake.
The work is sometimes attributed to William Upcott.
local note
Victoria University Library copy has bookplate of G. Almack; on the verso of the first fly-leaf in brown ink is "E. Almack". The library's copy has many printed and manuscript notes, apparently by John Bowyer Nichols either tipped in or laid in throughout. Heavily revised throughout in MS apparently by William Upcott.
