Electronic reproduction of British Government files selected from collections held at the National Archives, Kew. The largest number of files are from divisions within the following: FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Offices and their predecessors); FO (files created or inherited by the Foreign Office); HO (files created or inherited by the Home Office, Ministry of Home Security and related bodies); PREM (Prime Minister's Office). The files cover a wide variety of topics, including: disturbances in Northern Ireland; the Obscene Publications Act and Mary Whitehouse; immigration and race relations, including the civil rights movement in the UK and US, the death of Martin Luther King Jr., apartheid in South Africa and Black Power in the Caribbean; Che Guevara; youth culture; and women's liberation. Files added in the Section II update focus mainly on disturbances in Northern Ireland.
