A Look Inside
Full Text Reviews
Appeared in Choice on 1995-01:
Farid, as secretary-general of the Egyptian presidency, attended important meetings with Gamal Abdel Nasser, with visiting foreign diplomats and heads of state, and with Egyptian political and military leaders and advisors. This book is an edited record of these high-level talks and strategy sessions from the June 1967 Arab Israeli War to President Nasser's death in September 1970. The tone is objective and straightforward, yet the book is quite revealing of Nasser's central role in Egyptian government policy and decision making and of his preoccupations with perceptions of the Soviet Union, the US, Israel, and his Arab friends and foes. Recommended especially for libraries serving those specializing in Middle Eastern affairs from upper-division undergraduate level onward. B. Harris Jr.; Occidental College
