Bound in brown calf finished with centre and cornerpieces designs in gold and borders with double-line fillet and fancy pallet in gold; with remains of silk ties.
Coat of arms of the Davila family on leaves [7v] and [29r].
Contains notarial document written on paper and signed by Juan de Mendoza, “Cronista y Rey de armas”, explaining the significance of the coat of arms, leaves [29-34].
Includes autograph of Charles II of Spain: leaf [26r].
Includes illuminations and miniatures executed in tempera and gold leaf; some guarded by pieces of red silk.
Includes one full-page illuminated miniature in tempera and gold leaf of Virgin Mary with her hands raised in prayer supported by three putti within an architectural frame with floral motifs and fruits with the motto: "macula non est in te" on leaf [2v].
Patent of nobility presented to Charles II of Spain by Juan Dávila Almagro, citizen of Ocaña and familiar of the Inquisition, outlining genealogical information along with detailed references to earlier documents relating to his family's status as hidalgos.
